Sue Miller is a leading Liberal Democrat with a history of forthright campaigning

Sue Miller went to the Quaker school, Sidcot in Somerset and Oxford Polytechnic where she studied book publishing. Her subsequent career in books included working for Penguin, David and Charles and Weindenfeld and Nicolson and ten years as the joint proprietor of two bookshops.

Elected as a councillor, she served at parish, district and county levels from 1987-2005. South Somerset District Council won the first ever 'Council of the year' under her leadership for its radical approach to public involvement in service delivery.

She was nominated a Life Peer in 1998 becoming spokesman Environment, Agriculture and Rural Affairs 1999-2007 taking a lead for the Party on dozens of Bills including the Countryside and Rights of Way, Energy , Water , Natural England and Rural Communities , Animal Welfare and the Hunting Act. Her continuing interest in civil liberties issues resulted in the Party asking her to change roles to spokesman on Home Affairs where she has worked on immigration, policing and crime, counter terrorism and justice. Since the 2010 election she is concentrating far more on her other Parliamentary concerns notably nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.

She is a co-President of the international organisation Parliamenterians for Nuclear Non proliferation and Disarmament, joint Chair of the APPG on Street Children, Vice-Chairman of APPG Food and Health,a vice president of the Council for National Parks, BTCV,Wildlife and Countryside Link . In 2005 she won the PRASEG award for the Peer who had made the greatest contribution in the field of renewable energy.She has an interest in Central and South American countries and is Vice Chair of the APPGs on Latin America, Mexico and Bolivia.

Sue believes that with the second highest tidal range in the world in the Severn Estuary, the potential for marine renewable energies should be addressed seriously by the government

Sue's interests include walking, reading, sailing, all forms of wildlife watching and helping her husband in their vineyard.
